Indiana Resumes Child Care Voucher Approvals After Monthslong Freeze

News ReleaseINDIANAPOLIS – Indiana has approved 3,240 new child care vouchers since reopening enrollment this spring, marking the first significant expansion of the state’s Child Care and Development Fund program since admissions were frozen in December 2024.
Eric Holcomb, voucher enrollment grew to nearly 70,000 children before funding declined.
Voucher enrollment has increased to 48,193 children, though that remains about 8,800 below the state’s current target.
As of June, Indiana had about 175,900 licensed child care seats statewide.
Home-based providers declined 12% year over year, while licensed child care centers grew 0.8%.
