AI representational photoSrinagar- Electricity consumers in Jammu and Kashmir could see higher power bills in the coming financial year, with the Union Territory’s two power distribution utilities proposing a five per cent hike in tariff across all consumer categories for 2026-27. The Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) and Jammu Power Development Corporation Limited (JPDCL) have submitted separate petitions before the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) for J&K and Ladakh, seeking a five per cent increase in the basic tariff. In their petitions, the utilities said they had proposed a five per cent tariff revision across the board, along with the J&K government’s commitment towards subsidy support. The proposed increase, however, has drawn opposition from the industrial sector. The final tariff for different consumer categories will be determined by JERC after considering the petitions, public objections and other relevant factors.
