During their meeting Tuesday morning the Meridian City Council voted unanimously to approve a resolution renaming a portion of 4th Street from the intersection of 18th Avenue to the intersection of 23rd Avenue to Paul Davis Music Row. Rainey spoke saying that her husband Ken Rainey, who recently passed away, should actually be standing before the council giving the presentation. Rainey said that her husband Ken had two projects he felt strongly about, preserving the Temple Theater and honoring songwriter Paul Davis. Thompson said Ken Rainey started submitting an application to rename the section of 4th Street to Paul Davis Music Row in June and the department wanted to continue Rainey’s efforts. The late Ken Rainey was also one of Paul Davis’ strongest advocates and understood the importance of honoring the people who helped define Meridian’s musical identity.”
