Isle Of Wight Radio
A police officer visiting the Isle of Wight on holiday helped rescue a man and a young boy after they got into difficulty in the sea off Ventnor Breakwater on Wednesday afternoon.
West Mercia Police officer Stuart Coote was enjoying a summer break on the Island when he spotted the pair struggling in the water at around 3.55pm.
Stuart said he and several members of the public immediately called for help before locating life buoys and throwing them into the sea.
He described large waves tossing the man and young boy around, leaving them struggling to stay afloat.
Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team, along with crews from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, including a critical care paramedic, arrived shortly afterwards to take over the incident.
