The band describe their sound as gritty and energetic alternative music, combining melodic hooks with influences from growing up by the sea. The Optimists have been building a name for themselves on the Island's music scene, having already supported acts including The K's, The Clause, Vistas and The Lilacs. They have also played major festivals including Victorious and the Isle of Wight Festival, where they have appeared on the Main Stage. The band are part of an increasingly recognised Isle of Wight music scene which has also produced artists including Wet Leg, Coach Party, Level 42 and The Bees.
