Court proceedings for Micah Curtis Sykes had been repeatedly delayed since prosecutors first filed the felony case late last year. Following multiple continuances, the younger Sykes appeared in Los Angeles County Superior Court to formally deny the allegations. Law enforcement authorities report that the fatal assault occurred around 9:20 p.m. on Dec. 8, 2025, inside the family’s Santa Monica residence. First responders arrived shortly after the 911 call, but the elder Sykes succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Prosecutors from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Elder Abuse Section are leading the case alongside Santa Monica police detectives.
