Community Health Centre (CHC) Hajin has confirmed two cases of drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) in North Kashmir's Sonawari area this year, both involving women.
Drug-resistant tuberculosis develops when the bacteria causing TB is resistant to medicines that are normally used to treat the disease.
Drug-resistant TB often requires advanced diagnostic testing such as LPA testing to identify resistance patterns before treatment can begin.
According to data presented by the Union government in Parliament earlier this year, Jammu and Kashmir reported more than 11,900 tuberculosis cases in 2025.
"TB is a treatable disease, and drug-resistant TB is also curable with the right medicines and proper follow-up," a health official said.
