The charity said it had taken the "difficult decision" to shut the sanctuary site, with the welfare of its monkeys cited as the overriding priority. Wild Futures has announced the closure of its Monkey Sanctuary in Cornwall, with animals set to be rehomed after site issues and a failed sale. "When we listed our home and sanctuary site for sale in June 2025, we were extremely hopeful that we would find a sympathetic buyer," she said. Based near Looe, the Monkey Sanctuary was established in the 1960s to rescue woolly monkeys from the pet trade and grew into what Wild Futures described as a "world-class sanctuary" and the first GFAS-accredited wildlife sanctuary in Europe. Wild Futures said it would continue its wider work in campaigning, education, and conservation despite the closure.
