Mom’s robbery inspired Dominican immigrant’s rise to top NYPD post: ‘I wanted to give back to the community’

The 60 year old top cop — who immigrated from the Dominican Republic at age 10 — was a City College student when his mother, Gladys Aramboles, was robbed in their neighborhood, Alphabet City. 5 Aramboles, a Dominican immigrant, worked his way up through the ranks.. He remembers being one of only five cops from the Dominican Republic working in the 33rd precinct — but today, 75% of the officers in the precinct are from the island. 5 Aramboles is proud of his Dominican heritage and plans to walk in the parade on Sunday.
