As flood-hit communities across Upper Assam continue to struggle with the long road to recovery, humanitarian organisations and development agencies have stepped up efforts to improve coordination and ensure assistance reaches those most in need. Representatives of more than 17 humanitarian organisations, community groups, research institutions and development agencies met in Jorhat on Thursday to review the ongoing flood response and discuss priorities for recovery in the worst-affected districts. A key focus of the meeting was strengthening collaboration between local organisations, community institutions, humanitarian agencies and technical partners to ensure that recovery efforts are guided by the actual needs of affected communities. The meeting also explored opportunities for collaborative interventions, advocacy and resource mobilisation as communities move from emergency relief towards longer-term recovery and resilience. Those attending agreed to continue strengthening coordination and information exchange to support a locally led, inclusive and needs-based response to the ongoing flood emergency in Upper Assam.
