Queensgate Square was chosen with 41 per cent of the votes and will be part of the Our Cultural Heart development, located next to the new library hub and food hall. John Hardie, cabinet member for regeneration, housing and transport, said: "This is a great result, and it’s been really positive to see so many people take part. "Queensgate Square is a name people recognise, and it will now become part of a new chapter for Huddersfield town centre as Our Cultural Heart continues to take shape." The square will open in September as part of the first phase of the wider development. The final shortlist of four names was created using local input and research to ensure each option reflected the town’s past and was appropriate for long-term use.
