Riddlesden Convenience Store, run by Kishor and Hema Patel for more than 20 years, recently hosted a visit from MP Robbie Moore and Doug Oliver of the Federation of Independent Retailers to discuss the growing challenges they face.
The conversation covered rising energy costs, tax pressures, the potential for higher business rates, and the impact of illegal tobacco and alcohol sales on legitimate traders.
"Riddlesden Convenience Store is one of many local independent retailers facing pressure from increased taxes, higher energy costs and competition from illegal tobacco trade and alcohol products being sold elsewhere.
"Independent businesses are the backbone of our communities.
"They provide essential local services, support local jobs and give our towns and villages their unique character.
