Southern Water has committed £25 million to the Chichester Wastewater Treatment Works, aiming to boost treatment capacity by around 57 per cent and reduce the risk of storm overflows into the sensitive Chichester Harbour. George Taylor, director of wastewater operations at Southern Water, said: "We’re excited to be starting upgrades at Chichester Wastewater Treatment Works. The project, beginning this month and due for completion by spring 2029, includes new tanks and pipework to expand the site's treatment capabilities. Southern Water delivers wastewater services to 4.8 million customers and water services to 2.7 million people across the South East, including Kent, Sussex, Hampshire, and the Isle of Wight. Southern Water says these long-term improvements reflect its commitment to transforming how it protects both the environment and the communities it serves.
