British Garden Centres has come up with a guide to help families turn gardens or even windowsills into “touch and smell” trails to keep young children entertained and engaged during the summer holidays. Julian Palphramand, head of plants at British Garden Centres, said: "You don't need a big garden or any special equipment to give children a brilliant sensory experience over the school holidays. "It's about letting them touch, smell and explore and get them connected with nature." Other suggested activities include sensory guessing games, simple recipes using home-grown herbs, and giving children their own gardening tools to encourage independence. British Garden Centres is the UK's largest family-owned garden centre group, with 80 locations across the country, including in Devon.
