OPUS KINK + LEMONSUCKR + KITCHEN LOVER – CONCORDE 2 TERRACE, BRIGHTON 6.8.26Brighton is a city of not only great pubs but great smoking areas: from the “courtyard” of The Hope & Ruin to the long benches of Green Door Store. Firmly outside for the summer, brass-punk panic attackers Opus Kink launch their debut album ‘The Sweet Goodbye’ in Concorde 2’s smoking area. The closing track, ‘Me Dog, You Dog, We Dog’, lands close to the ska-punk stylings of Bad Brains, as Lars and bassist Edson Chillery jog on the spot together. Bizarrely, Opus Kink seem determined not to end on a high – even singing a snippet of ‘Edelweiss’ a cappella before deep cut ‘1:18’ gets a rare outing. It somewhat sullies a celebration of the circle-pit-stoking delirium that has made Opus Kink one of Brighton’s best breakouts.
