Two groups of dogs, living about 16 kilometres apart in the same ruined landscape, are genetically distinct from each other.

The team found that the dogs at the power plant were genetically distinct from the dogs in the city.
The study found no evidence that an increased mutation rate or greater mutation accumulation was driving the difference between the power-plant and city dogs.
