Valentin Damyanov, of no fixed abode, formerly of Fort Street, Sandown, appeared before Isle of Wight magistrates on Tuesday, August 4.
The 33-year-old admitted two counts of theft from a shop, in Ryde and Sandown, between May 12 and June 2.
Prosecutor, Cristiane Finlay, said Damyanov stole £23 worth of beer across two incidents, and only one of the crates was recovered.
He said he was self-medicating with alcohol, and while he wasn’t alcohol dependant, he had been drinking a lot.
The presiding magistrate told Damyanov: “Hopefully it won’t be long before you get back on your feet”.
