Q+A: Stephanie Kirby:At Southern Nevada Trades High School, students are mastering hands-on skills in careers like HVAC and general construction. They’re getting real-world experience through partnerships with organizations like the Southern Nevada Home Builders Association, local homebuilders and construction companies. As another school year begins Monday, the Sun sat down with Stephanie Kirby, the school’s executive director, to learn what sets Southern Nevada Trades High School — known as SNTHS — apart. The difference with Southern Nevada Trades High School is in our elective courses — instead of having options such as music or art, students all take construction-focused electives. As a free public charter school, SNTHS does not have requirements beyond being a student prepared to enter high school, or already in high school and reside in the Las Vegas valley.
