September gas futures climbed 2.2¢ to $2.662 per million Btu, rebounding off a 14-week low. Gelber & Associates expects heat to drive power-sector gas burn to a 50.2 Bcf/d peak on Tuesday. But weather for the 11 - to 15-day period “turns cooler and points to softer weather-sensitive demand as the market approaches the latter half of August,” the consultancy said. As US dry gas production topped 111 Bcf/d on Friday, “ample inventories and sustained production continue to limit the bullish impact of the current heat, leaving the morning advance looking more like a recovery from yesterday’s storage-driven selling than the start of a broader shift higher. A more durable rally would likely require the warmer pattern to persist deeper into the forecast or supply to retreat more meaningfully.”
