TV Dinners, Push Pops And Passive Smoking: Should We Really Be Glorifying #90sParenting?
['Nell Frizzell']
Vogue UK
I heard racist jokes on television and marched against the Newbury Bypass and watched the Gulf War on the news and sucked on Push Pops.
So when I hear people extol the virtues of a ’90s childhood, I do wonder precisely which bits they’re thinking of.
But it was also, as I remember, quite dangerous, bigoted, unhealthy and boring too.
I remember people laughing at the word “poof” and calling celebrities “shirtlifters” and the first time two women kissed on television.
I remember stranger danger and public health campaigns about playing on building sites and people smoking on airplanes.
