Devizes Town Council has long hoped to improve The Shambles indoor market after taking over responsibility for the venue years ago. Earlier this year, the council’s Shambles Project task group recommended a list of priorities for these upgrades and a full programme of works is now being developed by officers. It is hoped that a full proposal for the project will be presented to councillors this autumn. The task group has requested that the report put together by officers takes into account any necessary damp treatment and the fabric of the building. Town councillors have also asked that the eventual works minimise disruption to market operations and traders and avoid any disruption in November and December.
