It had been opened by the Queen in 1988 having cost £5.8 million to build but almost from the outset had been plagued by high running costs.
Water Place, Bolton, 2002By 2002 the council was facing losses of £750,000 and a multi-million pound repair bill and closure was deemed the most prudent action.
The Water Place was demolished in 2003 with the site off Great Moor Street being redeveloped.
It is now occupied by Morrison’s car park.
