Cumberland Council is due to start overnight carriageway improvements in Dalston on the B5299, running from The Square to the Bridge End Inn, as part of a £27.3 million highways investment for 2026/27. This second phase is set to run from Monday, August 10 to Friday, September 4 and forms part of a wider plan to refurbish residential and rural roads across the network. A spokesperson for the council said the works are part of "helping to create a safer, more resilient and better-connected network for communities." Work will take place under nightly road closures from 6pm to 1am, with the route remaining closed until 3am for site clearance and material curing. The works are part of the council’s wider £27.3 million investment for 2026/27, which also includes fixing potholes, resurfacing roads and enhancing drainage, footways, cycleways, bridges and other key infrastructure.
