Firefighters responded to a vegetation fire in Shrewsbury on Friday evening after a squirrel is believed to have ignited a blaze by chewing through a power line. Fire crews from Minsterley and Shrewsbury were dispatched to Hencote Lane at approximately 6.55 pm following reports of a field and stubble fire. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a 20-metre by 20-metre section of vegetation and hedge engulfed in flames directly beneath live power lines. Two fire appliances and an Incident Support Unit were deployed to the scene, operating within the Shrewsbury station ground. No injuries were reported, and normal power operations were restored following safety checks by National Grid technicians.
