Coming less than a year after the devastation of Hurricane Melissa, one of the most destructive storms in the nation’s history, this year’s Grand Gala carried a deeper significance. Earlier in the evening, fellow honoree Wayne Wonder delivered a short but memorable set that traced the soundtrack of his decades-long career. With each song Wayne Wonder showcased a musical legacy that has transcended generations, one that continues to bridge the gap between Jamaica’s past and present. As stories of communities rebuilding and neighbours supporting neighbours accompanied the display, the narrative shifted from loss to resilience. Vibrant firework displays brought the curtains down on another Grand Gala celebration in recognition of 64 years of Independence and resilience of the Jamaican spirit.
