See all of our newslettersLast month, the Honolulu Museum of Art (HoMA) announced the appointment of David Odo as its next director and CEO, beginning September 1.
For Odo, being appointed director of the Honolulu Museum of Art is a deeply personal homecoming.
“I actually grew up going to the Honolulu Museum of Art, so it is like a hometown museum,” he tells Observer.
“We are part of a great cultural ecosystem in Honolulu, and being one player in that ecosystem is a really important role for the museum,” Odo states.
He wants cultural workers, art historians and museum professionals to be able to remain in Hawaiʻi or return there to build careers.
