Three Yemeni coffeehouse chains based in Dearborn, Michigan: Qahwah House, Qamaria Coffee, and Haraz Coffee House now operate 121 stores spanning 14 states, highlighting the popularity of Yemeni coffee. While in the past, Arab American coffeehouses only allowed men, and they were allowed to smoke, today's Yemeni coffeehouses offer a modern approach. These contemporary Yemeni coffeehouses feature traditional brews and flavors using infusions of spices such as cardamom, ginger, cloves, nutmeg, and cinnamon, making the popular qishr brew. Some guests are encountering Yemeni coffeehouses for the first time, and some businesses, like Qahwah House, decorate the shop with artifacts and photographs of the Yemeni countryside. In 2016, Alkhanshali started the Port of Mokha company, introducing the U.S. to high-end Yemeni coffee.
