A newly unveiled mural at Detroit's Eastern Market pays tribute to Moses Primus Sr., recognized as the first known Black butcher to work at Gratiot Central Market, adding another piece of public art to the district's growing collection. Imagery tied to that craft runs throughout the mural, linking the market's past to its present-day identity. Following the dedication, guests were invited to a happy hour at Marrow, held from 6 to 9 p.m. as part of the broader First Wednesdays celebration. Marrow chef Noelle Prater prepared food for attendees, including walking tacos made with pork pastilla, corn chips, charred corn queso, pickled Fresno peppers, lime-pickled cabbage, and crispy chicharron. Organizers say the mural stands as a lasting tribute to the people and history that shaped Eastern Market, reinforcing the district's long-standing reputation as a hub for food, culture, and community events in Detroit.
