A: While some aches and pains can happen with aging, joint pain should not always be considered a normal part of getting older. A: Arthritis is not a single disease — it is a term used to describe joint pain, swelling and/or stiffness. Other forms include psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, lupus-related arthritis, reactive arthritis and juvenile idiopathic arthritis. For some people, injections such as extended-release corticosteroids (for knee osteoarthritis), hyaluronic acid, or platelet-rich plasma (PRP) may help reduce pain. Products such as glucosamine and chondroitin have not consistently been shown to improve osteoarthritis symptoms, so they are not routinely recommended.
