I soon learned that these trees were called Garry Oaks. They are apparently found as far south as California, but Garry Oaks were named after Nicholas Garry, the Deputy Governor of the Hudson’s Bay Company. I also didn’t know that Oak Bay was named after the Garry Oak tree. Portable water tanks have been popping up around my neighbourhood and in others, giving the trees a little extra hydration. Not just Garry Oaks, other trees too.
