The Provincial Government of Villa Clara announced on Friday the imposition of maximum price limits on essential food items through Agreement No. Specific price ceilings include: eggs not to exceed 95 pesos wholesale and 110 pesos retail; a liter of oil at a maximum of 2,250 pesos wholesale and 2,500 retail; a kilogram of powdered milk at 3,120 pesos wholesale and 3,465 retail; refined sugar at 370 pesos wholesale and 410 retail; and a kilogram of sausages at 1,255 pesos wholesale and 1,500 retail. Yet, less than two months later, Villa Clara resurrects these controls on a provincial level with the same old solemnity. Nevertheless, Villa Clara opted to swim against this current. With an egg price cap of 110 pesos, a family purchasing just 30 eggs monthly would spend 3,300 pesos, more than the entire minimum wage, solely on that item.
