Prosecutors announced that a 25-year-old man from Hilo has been indicted for his alleged involvement in the deadly shooting of a 36-year-old man. South Hilo patrol officers found Castillias lying face down outside a residence. Escobar faces four charges, according to the indictment: second-degree murder; carrying or using a firearm in the commission of a separate felony; prohibited ownership or possession of a firearm; and prohibited ownership or possession of ammunition. The firearm charge is a Class A felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison. The case was initially handled by South Hilo Patrol, while Detective Amy Omaya of the Area I Criminal Investigation Section led the felony investigation.
