Launched at Blackburn Central Library, the group was set up by creative writing enthusiast Saida Khan to fill a gap in free literary activities in the area and offer a supportive environment for writers of all backgrounds and experience levels. Saida said: "I think hosting a writing group is very important because there are no fiction /poetry groups in Blackburn and definitely not ones that are free. "I love writing but it can be a solitary experience so it's good to socialise with other writers." Future sessions may also include songwriting workshops and visits to local cultural sites such as Blackburn Museum and Blackburn Cathedral to inspire new writing. Other literary activities in the town include the All Stories Writers Group, hosted by Alina Shaukat at 4pm every last Friday of the month, which helps bring a community together.
