Located in the Rose Garden of Accrington Cemetery, the Hyndburn site was created in response to calls from residents who wanted a permanent tribute to family, friends, and neighbours lost to Covid-19.
The project was championed by Oswaldtwistle resident Peter Myerscough, who placed a heart on the National COVID Memorial Wall in London in memory of his father.
Inspired by that gesture, he campaigned for a similar memorial in Hyndburn, working alongside councillors and the borough council to bring the idea to life.
Mr Myerscough’s efforts began after his visit to the National COVID Memorial Wall in London, where he commemorated his father.
Residents can find the new COVID-19 Memorial by the existing memorial wall in the Rose Garden of Accrington Cemetery.
