From this year, 2026, the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) has issued an order that the best of 5 subjects model for passing examinations will be discontinued. The reading culture at home has also weakened. I also strongly support his practical suggestions for reviving the reading culture through reading clubs, literary festivals, book fairs, dedicated reading hours and stronger library programmes. Reviving the reading culture requires the collective efforts of parents, teachers, educational institutions, governments and community organisations. I sincerely hope that educators, policymakers and the public will act upon his recommendations and work collectively to restore books to their rightful place at the heart of education, culture and lifelong learning.
