In these times many of those holding top positions in the political hierarchy might not even settle in Meghalaya. Such a brutal display of state authority does not bode well for democracy and people will eventually find their voices when a leader rises to show the way. However, looking at how GenZ is finding its voice in this country and Gen Alpha joining forces, any ruthless show of state power is unlikely to succeed. For too long those who elected MLAs did so on very narrow considerations. Hence for decades, people of Meghalaya elected MLAs who later became ministers without a long- term vision for the state.
