Shania Twain is opening up about the advice she gave fellow music icon Jon Bon Jovi as he faced the same daunting operation she once endured.
Twain underwent open-throat surgery in 2018 to repair nerve damage in her larynx, an injury she has traced to a Lyme disease diagnosis she received after being bitten by a tick while horseback riding in 2003.
When Bon Jovi later developed his own laryngeal nerve problems, he turned to Twain for guidance, and she made sure he knew exactly what he was in for.
Looking back on that difficult time in her life, Twain shared, “I told him the surgery was scary; it's an open throat surgery, and you have to be awake for the surgery.
Twain's voice has taken on a raspier, more gravelly tone since the surgery, and she has had to relearn new vocal placements.
