The Musselburgh Amateur Golf Championship, it is said, is closely linked to the history of The Open Championship, which is due to be played at St Andrews in 2027. The 101st Musselburgh Amateur Golf Championship will tee off at Musselburgh Golf Club at Monktonhall on Saturday, September 5. The Open Championship was played on a rota of three golf courses - Prestwick, St Andrews and Musselburgh - between 1874 and 1889. The Musselburgh Amateur Championship was then started in 1912, as there was to be no professional tournament held in the town that year. Musselburgh Golf Club at Monktonhall is an Open Championship final qualifying venue and hosts the US Kids Golf European Championship.
