South Haven Area Emergency Services has added a new state of the art drone to its fleet thanks to a $10,000 grant from the South Haven Area Community Foundation.
SHAES says the drone is equipped with high-definition video capabilities, an expanded search range, longer battery life, and an upgraded GPS system.
Firefighter and paramedic Zach Henreich, a member of the department’s drone team established three years ago, says the technology has already proven valuable in emergency situations.
Previous drones have been used to find a missing child, help with rescue responses on Lake Michigan, and monitor large fire scenes.
SHAES Director Brandon Hinz tells us support from organizations like the community foundation enables the agency to do more than just respond to fires.
