Camera crews descended on the town near the sugar sheds on Thursday, August 6, with Glaswegian actor Richard Rankin spotted on set. He portrays the titular John Rebus in the show, adapted from the Inspector Rebus novels by Ian Rankin. Further filming was spotted taking place on Friday, August 7 on Brisbane Street, at its junction with Robertson Street near the Brisbane Laundrette. The programme is set in Edinburgh’s ‘murky underbelly’, as DS Rebus is drawn into a violent criminal conflict that turns personal. The first Rebus novel, Knots and Crosses, was published in 1987, the series now runs to 25 full-length novels, with the latest, Midnight and Blue, having been published in 2024.
