Trump Order Shrinks Bears Ears, Opens Path for More Motorized AccessOn July 13, President Donald Trump issued a proclamation reducing the size of Bears Ears National Monument in southern Utah, a move that off-road advocacy groups say could expand public motorized access across the region.
The monument is set to be cut from 1.36 million acres to roughly 121,100 acres.
The Off-Road Business Association and SEMA both called the order a win for the off-road community, arguing that ORVs will gain access as federal agencies take over management of roads and trails within the remaining monument boundaries.
They described the area as “ideally suited for a new transportation plan that can maximize public access and create more ways for all people to utilize roads and trails for responsible motorized recreation.”
The practical effect will depend on implementation through future planning and route-designation decisions.
