Defence lawyer Jeremy Tricks argued that complying with a dispersal order can be particularly difficult for someone with no settled accommodation to return to. The court heard that on June 21, officers were alerted to reports of an intoxicated female jumping into the River Exe from the Quay. "It’s quite simple if someone has a house to go to after being given a dispersal order," Tricks said. The court heard Ferris had sustained a broken jaw in an assault on the same day she was dispersed from the Cathedral Green.
