We now have more details about the AI hardware OpenAI is building in collaboration with former Apple design head Jony Ive. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that the device will be a screenless, doughnut-shaped speaker that will function like ChatGPT’s voice mode and cost as much as a midrange Android phone. It’s the first of the family of AI devices that OpenAI plans to launch in the near future. The device will feature a camera system, sensors, a battery, speaker grills, microphones, and lights. As with Ive’s Apple devices, the OpenAI speaker will deliver a premium feel and use high-quality metal, Gurman says.
