During his junior year, he worked at a Cape Cod Wendy’s, where he was promoted to shift manager. DeSouza’s boss, Usama El-Sehrawey, who owns several Wendy’s in Cape Cod and Plymouth, Massachusetts, had another idea. With financial help from his employers, DeSouza completed three years at Cape Cod Community College. DeSouza wrote that what “stood out” to him is not what his former bosses built as franchise owners, but the “way they invest in people.” Four years ago, DeSouza was at community college, watching people around him “getting jobs, getting married, having kids, building million-dollar companies.”
