Velana International Airport (MLE) recorded its highest-ever monthly transshipment cargo volume in July 2026, handling more than 2,000 tonnes during the month. The airport also achieved its highest monthly sea-to-air (S2A) cargo volume since the service began in 2024. The airport uplifted 621 tonnes of sea-to-air cargo in July, marking a record for the service since its launch two years ago. July also saw the first sea-to-air cargo shipment originating from Cambodia, expanding Velana International Airport's multimodal connectivity into Southeast Asia. Velana International Airport is also planning to install Explosive Detection System (EDS) machines at its cargo terminal for the Winter 2026/27 season to improve efficiency and reduce turnaround times.
