A Romeoville man has been accused of approaching a minor with a stick, yelling at him and calling him a racial slur. On Sunday, David L. Simpson, 63, was charged with a felony hate crime following a Romeoville Police Department investigation of the Aug. 2 incident. A criminal complaint alleged Simpson “committed an assault” against a minor by approaching him “with a stick in his hand while yelling at him and calling him (a racial slur).” On July 1, Simpson was charged with aggravated assault of two Romeoville police officers. Simpson was granted pretrial release because the charge was not eligible for detention.
