A Davenport, Iowa, man has been charged in Whiteside County with sex abuse and sex assault offenses. Thomas P. Williams, 34, is charged with one count of predatory criminal sexual assault of a victim younger than 13, a Class X felony; and one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a victim younger than 13, a Class 2 felony, according to court records. According to a Sterling Police Department news release, officers received a report July 25 about criminal sexual abuse in the 900 block of Fifth Avenue, Sterling. An investigation the department described as “extensive” led to the charges filed against Williams, according to the release. He was denied pretrial release during a hearing Friday afternoon in Whiteside County Circuit Court and remains in the Whiteside County Jail.
