The shopping centre raised more than £90,000 for good causes and has transformed empty retail units into spaces for community organisations, earning the highest honour in the Commonwealth Environment and Corporate Social Responsibility Awards 2026. Angela Tierney, centre manager at Mill Gate, said: "Winning Gold is an incredible honour and something everyone connected with Mill Gate can be proud of. "This award recognises the amazing community spirit that exists here in Bury and the partnerships we've built with local charities, schools, community groups, retailers, and visitors. "This award belongs to everyone who has played a part in making Mill Gate such a welcoming and inclusive place. Among its community initiatives, the shopping centre has provided space to organisations such as Veterans in Communities, Bury Hospice, and The Met Theatre.
