Lists of plants to buy, seeds to propagate, plants to move, chores to do—the list goes on. Over my years of gardening, and now going on twenty-six years in the Upstate, I’ve moved away from all of that. Sometimes, in this day and age of technology, it’s good to remember that a lot happened before all of it. Instead, they used the signs nature itself provided. Don’t feed new plants anything high in nitrogen, which is the first number you see on fertilizer labels.
