Polk, Rutherford counties impacted by severe weather Thursday

The National Weather Service issued both a severe thunderstorm warning and a flood advisory, which remained in effect until 9:15 p.m., as a line of storms moved across the region.
The thunderstorm warning advised residents of 60-mph wind gusts and penny-sized hail.
As flooding worsened, Polk County officials urged residents to stay off flooded roads.
“Multiple roads in Polk County have flooded,” the county said in a social media post around 8 p.m. “Please use caution when driving and when in doubt, turn around.
Residents throughout Polk, Rutherford and neighboring counties shared photos and videos on social media showing flooded roads and overflowing ditches, highlighting how quickly conditions changed as the storms moved through the area.
